Ethics in Photography

A photo has the power to affect change and this is one of the reasons as to why it is so important to consider ethics within photography. Generally sensitive photos are okay as long as the intention of the photographer are positive. This means that it is okay to take confronting images just as just as Kevin Carter did with his infamous photo of 'The Child and Vulture'. Although he claimed, “I am haunted by the vivid memories of killings & corpses & anger & pain.” Another example is of Nick Ut's photo of 'The Burning Children' where he snapped a photo of children burning and then proceeded on to help get them medical support.

A different aspect of ethics in photography is when photo journalists alter their images. It is debatable whether this is ethical as their job is to inform and tell the truth. However, I believe it is okay, again if their is intentions are positive and if the image doesn't stray too far from the truth and uses objects/subjects in the photo that were actually in the scene.
