Depth of Field

The larger the aperture number, the smaller the aperture, meaning the less light being let in and therefore the deeper the depth of field. Usually portraits will have a shallower depth of field so that only the person is in focus and everything behind them is not.

We went out and tested this out by using each other as models and experimented with both deep and shallow depth of field:
